Care must be taken to ensure that there is sufficient holder material so that the diamond can be securely mounted. We are therefore happy to assist with the design of special holders. Carbide or steel holders If the application of a tool does not allow the diamond to be secured in the holder using a clamping mount, it is recommended to bond the stone in a high-vacuum environment. The holder can thus be made much slimmer and takes up less space. Since there is no cap clamping the diamond into the mount, optimal chip evacuation is guaranteed. With this method, the diamond is no longer protected, so tools bonded using high vacuum must be handled with great care. It should also be noted that repairing severely damaged tools bonded using high vacuum is more labor-intensive and therefore more expensive. With a steel holder, the diamond can be easily removed and reground thanks to the screw.

Die Rohdiamanten werden in Antwerpen gesägt und anschliessend mit YAG-Laser vorgeschnitten. Danach werden sie im Hochvakuumofen gelötet und auf selbst entwickelten Schleifmaschinen präzise geschliffen, wodurch spiegelglatte Schneidkanten und enge Toleranzen entstehen. Werkzeughalter werden bei der Tochterfirma SDI GmbH auf CNC-Maschinen gefertigt, bevor die Diamanten präzise gefasst und plan geschliffen werden. PRODUCTION Milling heads In our very well-equipped mechanical department, we manufacture milling heads according to customer drawings. We have the expertise to carry out the entire manufacturing process in-house. Diamond processing The pre-cut diamonds are processed at our site in Biel or at our sister company in Germany. Diamond processing with laser Internal profiles and radii of diamonds (MCD) are pre-cut using lasers for shaping. We use femtosecond lasers for processing PCD diamonds. Diamond brazing in high vacuum Diamonds can only be soldered in a high-vacuum furnace – a special process which we have implemented with a high-tech system. Setting the diamonds The diamonds of the cutting tools are pressed into a bed of silver solder and fixed with a clamping holder. Only a precisely crafted setting, exactly according to the dimensions of the stone, and a flawless impression of the diamond in the solder bed guarantee vibration-free operation of the tool. Mirror-smooth polished cutting edges Our self-built grinding machines are characterized by optimal smooth running. This allows us to achieve the finest, absolutely chip-free cutting edges. Profiles and radii within tight tolerances Through our specially developed, precise grinding machines, we guarantee compliance with the tightest tolerances.
